富士重工業大宮製作所跡地の31.7haに新しいまちをつくる再開発事業のなかの核となる公園の設計プロジェクト。敷地は幅50〜25m、奥行き500mほどの細長い形状である。
稲荷神社と鎮守の森、本家邸宅と屋敷林に隣接する約0.4haの敷地には、稲荷神社軸を基軸としここの場所性を検討していた中で筑波山と富士山を結んだ軸線がこの敷地の中心を通ることがわかり、その軸をデザインとして取り込み、ここしかない場所性をつくる基本とした。この軸にそった３mごとの縞模様が公園全体のランドアートをなしている。富士山ー筑波山軸を表す２種類の芝で創った縞模様はこの公園の愛称にまで展開された。
エントランス広場の「水の劇場」には、地中に埋め込まれたノズルから水が糸状に放物線を描いてジャンプする。この土地は縄文時代から人々が住み着いていた豊かな場所であった。「土地の記憶」を表現する出土品をメタファーとした花崗岩で創られた「座のオブジェ」が散在し、いにしえの文化を彷彿とさせゆったりとした時の流れを感じさせるしつらえとしている。

The park is envisioned to be a core of a new town redeveloped in a 31.7ha space formerly used as factories. The site is 50-25m wide and 500m long.
We found the fact that the axis line from the Mt. Fuji to Mt. Tsukuba crosses the center of the site, which decided the fundamental design concept to create a unique park for this special place. Two kinds of lawn are planted to make 3m-wide stripes parallel to the axis. The stripe pattern covers the whole park as a land art. Thus the park is named Shima-Shima Park; shima-shima means stripes in Japanese.
In the entrance plaza, the axis is emphasized by water spouting from 35 nozzles buried in the ground along the stripes. The "Memory of Land" this fertile place possesses is that Jomon people inhabited here 5000 years ago. Granite objets for sitting metaphorically take the shapes of Jomon people's earrings or other accessories, which makes visitors imagine the ancient life and long passage of time.
